On August 27th, according to a statement from BYD, the company signed an intelligent driving cooperation agreement with Huawei in Shenzhen. The first product resulting from this collaboration is the upcoming FangChengBao Bao 8 model, which will be equipped with Huawei's QianKun Intelligent Driving ADS 3.0.

"Both teams began coordinating very early on and have been developing this for a long time. In the future, new models under the FangChengBao brand will also be developed together with Huawei," said Li Yunfei, General Manager of BYD Group's Branding and Public Relations Department.

BYD also revealed that the FangChengBao Bao 8, equipped with Huawei's QianKun Intelligent Driving ADS 3.0, has fully entered the real vehicle testing phase and is expected to be launched after the third quarter of 2024.

Although BYD was one of the first in the industry to propose the concept of "the first half is electrification, the second half is intelligence," its achievements in the field of intelligence are somewhat lacking compared to its leadership in electrification. The decision to collaborate with Huawei is undoubtedly aimed at leveraging Huawei's capabilities in the intelligent domain to further address these shortcomings.

As the industry transformation deepens, more and more automakers are embracing change with a more open attitude. Besides BYD, other vehicles equipped with Huawei's QianKun Intelligent Vehicle Solutions will gradually be released, including models from Dongfeng, Changan, GAC, BAIC, SERES, Chery, and JAC. To differentiate themselves in the market, BYD and Huawei will conduct in-depth joint research and development on intelligent driving specifically for FangChengBao vehicles, aiming to create the world's first intelligent driving solution tailored for rugged vehicles.

It is reported that Huawei's QianKun Intelligent Driving ADS 3.0 debuts with a safety-first, end-to-end network architecture. In terms of safety, ADS 3.0 enhances forward, lateral, and rear collision prevention capabilities, supporting higher braking speeds and shorter braking distances, and includes collision prevention for accidental acceleration.

In terms of intelligent driving navigation assistance, Huawei's QianKun ADS 3.0 achieves end-to-end scenario coverage, allowing navigation assistance to be activated as soon as the vehicle departs from the parking space, and enabling the vehicle to autonomously handle complex scenarios such as toll gates, roundabouts, and narrow U-turns. It also supports remote parking and vehicle repositioning. BYD's decision to collaborate with Huawei does not mean it is relinquishing its "soul." Li Yunfei emphasized, "In our overall intelligent driving strategy, BYD is both open to cooperation and committed to independent research and development, operating on a dual-track approach." On a standardized intelligent driving platform, BYD employs its fully self-developed advanced intelligent driving system, "TianShen Eye," which has been implemented in several models under the Tengshi, Dynasty, and Ocean series. "TianShen Eye" leverages BYD's unique advantage in intelligent electric integration to create more differentiated and innovative features. For example, the recently launched Tengshi Z9 GT, equipped with "TianShen Eye" and supported by the e-Platform 3.0, has been upgraded to BAS 3.0+ human-like driving assistance, adopting an end-to-end model architecture to achieve nationwide map-free high-speed navigation, automatic parking, AEB, and other intelligent driving technologies. Nationwide map-free city navigation, valet parking, and high-speed blowout stability control are expected to be realized by the end of the year.

At the recent 2024 Tengshi Automotive Technology Day, BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu introduced that BYD is continuously increasing its investment in intelligent driving, having independently developed an in-vehicle computing platform, established a perception laboratory, developed end-to-end large models, and built a supercomputing center. BYD has assembled a team of over 4,000 engineers dedicated to intelligent driving, creating a fully self-developed intelligent driving research and development system.

"In the future, BYD will invest 100 billion yuan in the field of intelligence." Previously, Wang Chuanfu had publicly stated, "In 2024, BYD will launch over 10 advanced intelligent driving models equipped with LiDAR. In the future, advanced intelligent driving assistance systems will be offered as an option for BYD models priced above 200,000 yuan, and all models priced above 300,000 yuan will come with these systems as standard."
