On June 23, 2025, the new MG5 was officially unveiled, and it is set to launch on June 30. As a compact sedan from the SAIC MG brand, the new model continues with the same design language as the current version but comes with significant upgrades in configuration and design options, aimed at enhancing the user experience.
The new MG5 adopts the MG family’s 'Hungry Tiger' design language, which is marked by a highly recognizable front grille and triangular front headlights, creating a bold and sporty visual effect. The black 'fang' design on both sides of the front bumper further accentuates the vehicle’s athletic appeal.
From the side, the new MG5 retains the Fastback coupe-like design, a classic MG feature that offers excellent visual impact and strong brand recognition. The overall dimensions of the car are expected to be 4715mm (length) x 1842mm (width) x 1473mm (height), with a wheelbase of 2680mm, fitting well within the compact sedan category while ensuring ample interior space.
The rear design retains the sporty appeal with an aggressive rear bumper. The dual-exhaust system at the bottom adds to the vehicle's dynamic look, emphasizing its performance-oriented character.

The new MG5 introduces two brand-new exterior colors: Bubble Orange and Andes Gray, offering more personalized choices for consumers.
Inside the car, a dual-tone orange and black interior design has been added, creating a more youthful and vibrant atmosphere. The vehicle also features a 256-color ambient lighting system, allowing users to customize the cabin's lighting to match their mood or preference. For a superior sound experience, the new MG5 comes equipped with an 8-speaker audio system, providing an immersive auditory experience for all passengers.

In terms of performance, based on the current MG5, the new model is expected to offer two engine options: a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine with a maximum output of 129 horsepower and a peak torque of 158Nm, and a 1.5T turbocharged engine producing 181 horsepower and 285Nm of peak torque. The powertrains will be paired with a CVT automatic transmission (simulating 8 speeds) or a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission, delivering a smooth yet responsive driving experience.
The WLTC combined fuel consumption for the two engines is expected to be 6.38L/100km for the 1.5L version and 6.45L/100km for the 1.5T version, offering excellent fuel efficiency and an impressive balance of power and economy.

The current MG5 is priced between ¥8.19–9.59 million in China, and it is expected that the new MG5 will be priced similarly. As a compact sedan, the new model’s competitive pricing, combined with its updated features and dynamic performance, makes it a strong contender in its segment.
The new MG5’s upgrades in design, configuration, and powertrain are aimed at satisfying modern consumers’ needs for technology, personalization, and performance. From the new exterior colors to the updated interior design and advanced tech features, the new MG5 offers a combination of sportiness and cutting-edge convenience. For younger consumers, it’s not just a car; it’s a lifestyle statement full of energy and passion.
